About
Raven Rock Loop Trail is a two-and-a-half-mile trail located near the town of Lillington. Raven Rock State Park features lots of different activities such as fishing, biking, paddling, and hiking. In this blog post we will be focusing on the Raven Rock Loop Trail, which features the overlook of the Cape Fear River, and you'll also get to see Raven Rock. Before you start reading about the hike, here are a few things that are good to know before going.
Restrooms are available on-site near the Raven Rock Loop Trailhead
You can get maps before your hike at the Raven Rock State Park Visitor Center. The maps contain information about the different hikes you can do.
Dogs are allowed as long as they are on a leash.
Biking is not allowed on the Raven Rock Loop Trail.
The trail can get tight and busy during weekends, especially near the Raven Rock Cliff.
The Hike
Raven Rock Trail is an absolute must for anyone wanting a good hiking trail along with some scenic views along the way. Raven Rock Trail is two and a half miles and takes roughly an hour to an hour and a half to complete. During your hike you'll get to see an overlook of the Cape Fear River along with being able to see Raven Rock Cliff. We personally enjoyed this trail due to the views as well as the different animals you may come across on your hike. On our hike we got to hear many birds such as woodpeckers as well as see a few lizards along the trail. Bald eagles can also be spotted on the trail year-round.
What to bring
It's always good to have a list of things to bring before going for a hike. Below is a basic list of things we think will make your hike more enjoyable.
Water: During our hike it got extremely hot. Bringing enough water to hydrate you throughout the entire hike is recommended.
Sunscreen: While most of the trail is shaded by the trees, bringing some sunscreen just in case isn't a bad idea
Food: The trail can take over an hour to completely hike depending on your pace. Bringing a light snack never hurts.
Camera: There are a lot of things to take pictures of on this trail. Whether you use your phone camera or another type, you should definitely bring one.
