Overview
Yates Mill Country Park has lots to offer. From hiking trails to the Yates Mill building, this park has a surprising amount of activities to do. In this blog post, we will be looking specifically into the hiking aspect and Yates Mill.
The Hike
If you enjoy hiking and learning about history, we recommend that you look into Yates Mill County Park. Historic Yates Mill offers a scenic hike around Yates Millpond and a historic mill building at the end. Once you arrive and park, you will begin your hike. Just moments into the hike you will cross a bridge offering some relaxing views over the pond and a great place to spot wildlife. During our trip we saw plenty of birds and even some turtles relaxing on a log. After you cross the bridge, you will enter the main hiking path. This park stood out to us for a couple of reasons. The main reason was how private and relaxing it was. The trail was not very busy, and the lake offered some very relaxing sounds. The second reason we enjoyed Yates Mill County Park was the amount of wildlife that could be spotted while hiking. From geese to turtles, we saw a lot of different animals that made the trip much more enjoyable. These are just some of the reasons why we enjoyed Yates Mill County Park, and we recommend you try the place out yourself.
NCPathfinder's Difficulty Evaluation: Easy
We rate all of our hikes we do by 5 categories (read our blog to find out how we rate our hikes). After putting this hike to the test, we decided to give this hike a 1/5. The hiking aspect of Yates Mill County Park is very easy. With no obstacles obstructing the path and no elevation, this hike is very easy, and we believe that it is friendly to all hikers.
The Mill
Towards the end of your hike, you will come across the mill. While we won't be diving too far into the history, we will give you a rundown of the mill itself. Once you have completed your hike (which leads you to the mill), you will come across the historic mill. Near the mill there is a small waterfall that might be worth taking a photo of. Once you pass the waterfall, you will come across the mill. You can go inside the mill and talk to one of the guides. We encourage you to ask any questions you may have with the staff, as they are very helpful and friendly when answering questions.
